Frequently asked questions
What happens to the transparent areas?
JPG has no transparency. Any transparent pixels are flattened against the background colour you pick on the Output tab (white by default).
Will the JPG be smaller than the PNG?
Almost always yes, often by 5x to 10x for photos and screenshots. JPG uses lossy compression that's a great fit for natural images.
What quality should I pick?
85 to 90 looks indistinguishable from the source for most images. Drop to 70 if you need maximum compression and don't mind very mild softening.
Can I keep the original PNG too?
Yes. We don't touch your original; you get a new JPG file. Keep the PNG locally if you need transparency later.
How long is the result kept?
The JPG is auto-deleted after 7 days. Re-download is available during that window via the secure link.
